After The Flash officially reboots the DC universe, the future of Gal Gadot’s involvement as Wonder Woman remains uncertain. Although the Israeli actress gained recognition in the action movie genre through the Fast Saga, her most iconic role thus far has been portraying Diana Prince. However, she may soon add another iconic role to her repertoire, thanks to Netflix’s latest offering.
At the TUDUM event, Netflix premiered the exciting new trailer for Heart of Stone, an action-packed spy thriller starring Gadot as the lead. In this film, the Justice League star plays Rachel Stone, an international intelligence agent working for the peacekeeping organization Charter. Her mission is to prevent enemies from obtaining a dangerous MacGuffin known as “The Heart.”
Netflix has expressed its desire to launch a new franchise with Heart of Stone, envisioning Rachel Stone as an equivalent to iconic male spies like James Bond, Ethan Hunt, and Jason Bourne. Director Tom Harper is confident that the character can stand toe-to-toe with her male counterparts, as evident from the exhilarating action glimpsed in the trailer.
While some corners of the internet may perpetuate sexist views towards female action stars, it is hoped that Heart of Stone will avoid any unwarranted backlash or review bombing when it begins streaming on August 11. If Netflix plays its cards right, Gal Gadot could find herself with another unforgettable classic on her hands.
