Never Again Experiencing Setup Hassles: My Enduring Attachment to My Garmin GPS Watch

Garmin’s wearables have always been my top choice, outshining competitors like Apple, Samsung, and Google. I’ve constantly praised Garmin for its exceptional battery life and flexible operating system. While the Forerunner 965 and Instinct 2x may not be the most stylish options for formal occasions, there’s another important reason why I continue to choose Garmin over and over again. Once I’ve set up a Garmin running watch, I never have to do it again – it’s a set it and forget it experience.

Setting up a new wearable can be a hassle, especially if you frequently switch phones like I do. But with Garmin, all your watches are stored in your Connect account. Managing and selecting them is as easy as choosing a pair of shoes for the day. When I set up a new phone for review, all I need to do is open the app and select from my list of watches. This way, I can focus on setting up the phone itself, knowing that my emergency contacts, sleep preferences, and Garmin Pay information are already in place. Sometimes, I need to coordinate the watch face with my new phone for a little extra continuity, but that’s about it. Swapping between phones with Garmin is as effortless as changing watch bands. In addition, Garmin seamlessly transfers your sleep tracking and health data from one wearable to the next, including your HRV. This is crucial because building a baseline for your HRV takes about three weeks, so starting from scratch each time with a new watch would be a nightmare. Luckily, Connect stores all of this valuable information along with your running fitness level and daily Body Battery.

While Garmin’s stored settings make the process much smoother, I’ve noticed a slight hiccup when pairing a watch with a new phone – Garmin’s Bluetooth connection is almost too good. My Forerunner 965 often wants to connect to a previous phone and pick up notifications from that device instead of my new one. This is not a major issue for most people, but in my case, since I have multiple phones and Garmin watches, it can sometimes interfere with text messages and phone calls.

Fortunately, this shouldn’t be a concern for those who simply switch phones after an upgrade. As long as your old device is powered off, you should have no trouble keeping your Garmin connected to your current phone. Garmin offers a watch for every occasion and ecosystem. Pairing one phone with multiple watches is just as easy as pairing one watch with different phones. This allows you to explore various options in Garmin’s extensive lineup and always have the perfect wearable for the task at hand. For example, you wouldn’t wear the rugged Garmin Instinct 2x to a wedding, just as you wouldn’t bring a Garmin Venu 2 Plus on a camping trip. By having multiple watches and one phone, you can easily swap them to suit the occasion.

Even if you’re switching from Android to iOS, Garmin’s setup simplicity remains intact. Instead of investing in an Apple Watch or a Samsung Galaxy Watch for exclusive features, you can stick with Garmin for its unbeatable battery life, precise GPS, and easy setup process when transitioning between platforms.

While the Pixel Watch and Apple Watch Ultra may have their own stylish appeal, I’ll always choose Garmin for its simplicity and flexibility.
