There are rumors of a new 2D Super Mario game and more, with a possibility of Nintendo Direct releasing later this week.

As the “E3 Season” comes to a close, with showcases from renowned publishers such as PlayStation, Xbox, and Ubisoft already concluded, one major player has been notably absent – Nintendo. The enigmatic company often skips the E3 season entirely, but fans are eagerly awaiting some clarity regarding their plans for the second half of 2023.

Thankfully, there are growing rumors suggesting that we may receive an update soon. According to the Brazilian website Universo Nintendo, a new Nintendo Direct presentation is expected to drop sometime this week, possibly before Friday (June 23). Well-known Nintendo insider, Nate the Hate, has also strongly hinted at the possibility of significant Nintendo news being announced between June 20 and June 23.

If indeed a Nintendo Direct does take place this week, fans are curious about what they can expect to see. A purported Nintendo insider named Pyoro ND has emerged on the scene with potential insider information. While relatively new to the leaking game, Pyoro ND has accurately predicted recent announcements regarding Everyone 1-2-Switch, Sonic Superstars, and other games. According to Pyoro ND, the Nintendo Direct will feature the announcement of a new 2D Super Mario Bros. game and a remake of a classic SNES title.

Naturally, it’s essential to take all of this information with a grain of salt for now – the existence of a new Nintendo Direct and the rumored games should be regarded as speculative until confirmed. If a Nintendo Direct is indeed happening this week, we can expect an official announcement tomorrow, considering it’s a holiday in the United States today. Nevertheless, given that both Sony and Microsoft participated in the E3-season festivities this year, it would be quite surprising if Nintendo opted out entirely. The possibility of a new 2D Mario game is also quite believable, especially considering the immense success of the recent Super Mario Bros. Movie. Additionally, a new 3D Mario title is likely still years away, making a 2D installment more plausible. As for the rumored SNES remake, it remains uncertain.

What are your thoughts? Do you believe that we will indeed witness a new Nintendo Direct this week? And if so, what are your hopes for what Nintendo will unveil?
