A new trailer for Nimona, the animated sci-fi fantasy film set to release this summer, has just been released, offering audiences a fresh glimpse of what’s in store. Starring Chloë Grace Moretz as Nimona, her life takes a complicated turn when Ballister Blakcheart (played by Riz Ahmed), a former knight, is assigned to kill her after being wrongly accused of a crime. However, as time goes on, Blakcheart discovers that Nimona might actually be able to help him clear his name, leading to a potential alliance between the two. Unlike the traditional storytelling of movies like Frozen, Nimona has a unique voice and stands out from other animated projects due to her shape-shifting abilities.
During its production, Nimona faced several challenges. Initially announced under Blue Sky Studios, the film’s development was uncertain when 20th Century Fox, Blue Sky’s parent company, was acquired by Disney. Since Disney already owned multiple animation studios, they decided to close Blue Sky. This left Nimona on the verge of cancellation. However, Annapurna Pictures, the production company behind Missing Link, stepped in to complete the movie and partnered with Netflix for its release. With the support of Annapurna Pictures, Nimona was able to overcome its obstacles and is now ready to stream on Netflix.
