“Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Issues a Clever Caution for Game Rule Violations”

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a game that follows the tradition of sequence-breaking video games. However, unlike other games, if you manage to skip parts of the game, an error message will pop up and ask you to reload a save. The message cites an “unexpected error” and warns that continuing to play may cause issues. Players have the option of proceeding anyway, but they will be given the option to reload prior to that point in the game. This type of warning is uncommon in video games, with the only other known example being The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind’s “the thread of prophecy is severed” warning, which only appears when an essential NPC is killed. While the warning may be a hassle for speedrunners, it is necessary for casual players who may accidentally break the game. The game has also been topping the most-downloaded game charts on PS5 in April.
