‘Secret Invasion’ Finale Just Blew Away All Your ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Fears

Attention: Spoilers ahead for episode six of Secret Invasion.

Secret Invasion wasted no time in revealing that Everett Ross was actually a Skrull. In the first episode of the Disney Plus show, we saw him meet a fellow CIA agent who had discovered the Skrulls’ infiltration of important organizations on Earth and their involvement in terrorist attacks.

Ross swiftly eliminated the agent, but he was soon pursued by Talos and shot as he transformed into his Skrull form. Within the first few minutes of the show, we learned that a significant character in the MCU had been a Skrull for an unknown period of time, setting the stage for other characters to potentially reveal their true alien identities.

It wasn’t until the finale, which aired on Wednesday, July 26, that we received an update on the real Everett Ross. Fortunately, he’s alive and in much better condition than Rhodey, another major Marvel character who was replaced by a Skrull. Comparing the two men gives us a clue about how long Ross has been under the aliens’ control.

While Rhodey appears frail, weakened, and confused, Ross quickly recovers from the Skrulls’ influence and immediately questions the duration of the other man’s presence. It seems that the CIA agent was abducted relatively recently, likely after the events of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Marvel’s surprise revelations about the true identities of these characters may not sit well with fans. The implications for Rhodey are significant, considering how long he may have been absent. However, fans can find solace in knowing that Ross’ deception didn’t last very long and his previous appearances were likely genuine.

Secret Invasion deliberately leaves us with hints instead of definitive answers, allowing us to piece together the puzzle ourselves. It may be some time before we learn the exact duration of Ross’ Skrull substitution. Martin Freeman has been tight-lipped about his future in the MCU, stating in an interview with Collider, “I never think I’ve got a future in the MCU.” We’ll have to wait and see, but for now, we can assume that Ross’ character history hasn’t been as severely impacted as his fellow government associate.
