Season 2 of ‘And Just Like That…’ Provides an Update on Stanford’s Location

And Just Like That… Season 2 is finally here, bringing with it a delightful mix of fierce fashion, friendship, and fun. Fans of Sex and The City have eagerly awaited the return of Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) to the dating scene, ready for a fresh start after a season of mourning. While the loss of Mr. Big in the first episode was a significant blow to viewers, there’s another absence that shouldn’t go unnoticed – Willie Garson, who portrayed Carrie’s beloved BFF, Stanford. Luckily, Entertainment Weekly has revealed that the new season will subtly address his whereabouts.

Garson tragically passed away from pancreatic cancer in September 2021, having only filmed three episodes for the first season. The show’s creators paid tribute to him by dedicating an entire episode in his memory, revealing that he had quietly divorced Anthony (Mario Cantone) and embarked on a tour of Tokyo with his TikTok star clients.

Where is Stanford in And Just Like That… Season 2?

In the latest episode, Carrie turns to Smoke, the wife of her podcast co-host Jackie (Bobby Lee), for assistance in choosing a dress for the MET Gala. When Smoke and Jackie arrive at Carrie’s apartment with the dress, they discover Carrie wearing a beautiful kimono that she reveals was sent to her by “friend Stanford from Japan.” This clever nod not only acknowledges Garson’s absence but also keeps his spirit alive in the And Just Like That universe. The second season will address the absence of another key character, Kim Cattrall, as well.

Including legacy characters in a popular show or film can be a delicate task. Stanford and Carrie’s friendship served as the embodiment of “friendship goals” for many viewers of the original series. While Carrie is fortunate to have her close-knit group of girlfriends, her bond with Stanford radiated warmth and care in a way that blurred the lines between fiction and reality. A similar decision was made by the creators of the Fast and Furious franchise following the tragic passing of actor Paul Walker, with the latest installment paying homage to him in various ways.

And Just Like That Season 2 features an incredible ensemble cast, including Cynthia Nixon as Miranda, Kristin Davis as Charlotte, David Eigenberg as Steve, Evan Handler as Harry, Sara Ramirez as Che Diaz, and Sarita Choudhury as Seema. Returning characters include Karen Pittman as Dr. Nya Wallace, Alexa Swinton as Rose, Nicole Ari Parker as Lisa, Chris Jackson as Herbert, and Niall Cunningham as Brady, among others.

And Just Like That will release new episodes every Thursday on Max. Be sure to check out the trailer below:
