SDCC Announces Fall Release Date for Season 4 of “Lower Decks”

The adult animated series, Lower Decks, is set to make its debut on Paramount+ after the second season of ‘Strange New Worlds’. As San Diego Comic-Con experiences some setbacks due to writer and actor strikes, Star Trek brings exciting updates to the franchise. Attendees were treated to a screening of the much-anticipated Lower Decks x Strange New Worlds crossover episode and the announcement that Lower Decks season 4 will premiere on Paramount+ on September 7.

‘Lower Decks’ revolves around the unsung heroes of Starfleet – the lower-ranked officers who perform less glamorous tasks aboard the USS Cerritos, a California class ship. They handle second contact missions and other menial jobs that the prestigious Enterprise ships avoid. The show focuses on the ship’s cadets and ensigns who find themselves in wild adventures at the bottom of the workplace hierarchy. They share crew quarters and enjoy a bit more freedom to engage in the wildest shenanigans the galaxy has to offer. The talented voice cast includes Tawny Newsome as Beckett Mariner, Jack Quaid as Brad Boimler, Noël Wells as D’Vana Tendi, and Eugene Cordero as Samanthan Rutherford. Joining them are Dawnn Lewis as Captain Carol Freeman, Jerry O’Connell as first officer Jack Ransom, Fred Tatasciore as Shaxs, and Gillian Vigman as Doctor T’Ana.

Aside from the exciting Lower Decks news, fans can also look forward to the next episode of Strange New Worlds. In a unique twist, Newsome and Quaid will portray live-action versions of their animated characters, and SDCC attendees will have the opportunity to watch this special episode in Hall H. Furthermore, the Star Trek franchise continues to expand with new projects on the horizon. The fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery is slated to air in early 2024, and it will give rise to two spinoff series. A Section 31 movie featuring Michelle Yeoh’s Phillipa Georgiou is in development, along with a Starfleet Academy series that takes place in the same future era as Discovery. Although Star Trek: Prodigy has been removed from the streamer, the creators remain hopeful in finding a new home for the series so that fans can enjoy the 20 nearly completed episodes of Season 2.

Excitement continues to build as the Lower Decks episode of Strange New Worlds becomes available on Paramount+ next week, while the animated series itself will return on September 7. Be sure to take a look at the captivating new poster below.
