Glimpse into PlayStation Project Q Leak Showcases Early Gameplay on Handheld Device

Multiple leaked images and videos have surfaced, giving us a preliminary look at PlayStation’s upcoming streaming handheld, Project Q.

According to a report by VGC, tech enthusiast Zuby-Tech shared several images of Project Q online. However, it’s important to note that these images may not represent the final version of the user interface. The handheld device seems to be running on an Android-based operating system, possibly a developer build that allows for customization. Zuby_Tech also shared a video showcasing the console, which bears a resemblance to a stretched-out PS5 controller with a screen in the middle.

The leaked video suggests that the screen is touch-enabled, although its exact purpose beyond menu navigation remains unclear. It is possible that the touchscreen serves as a substitute for games that utilize touchpads, as the handheld device lacks that feature.

When Project Q was initially revealed in May, details about its specifications were sparse. However, it was confirmed that the device would boast an 8-inch LCD screen capable of displaying games in 1080p resolution at 60fps. Additionally, game installation on the accompanying PS5 console is required to play games on Project Q, though it remains uncertain if physical game copies can be streamed.

The release date for the handheld remains uncertain. During recent court hearings related to Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft hinted that Sony could launch Project Q later this year at a price below $300. However, this information is not an official confirmation, so we will have to wait for Sony’s official announcement. Perhaps during this period, Sony may also consider transforming Project Q into a proper successor to the PS Vita.
