Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS4 and Switch next week

The original Red Dead Redemption will be available on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in just over a week. This is exciting news, as it’s one of the few highly successful games from the post-2010 era that hasn’t been re-released. It’s a great feeling knowing that the long wait is finally over, even if we didn’t realize we were eagerly anticipating it in the first place.

While Rockstar isn’t labeling it as a remaster, this RDR release developed by Double Eleven Studios appears to have improved visuals compared to its original version on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. There were rumors of an actual HD remaster, but those plans seem to have fizzled out. Based on Rockstar’s promotional material, it seems they are simply opting for a straightforward re-release.

This is definitely not the rumored RDR remake in Unreal Engine or the Red Dead Redemption 2 engine that some have speculated about. However, this re-release of Red Dead Redemption will include the popular Undead Nightmare DLC. This exciting addition took advantage of the zombie craze from the 2010s, allowing players to join John Marston in a possibly non-canonical side quest battling hordes of undead cowboys. Despite its age, it remains a fun experience to this day.

Red Dead Redemption will be priced at $49.99 for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The digital version will be available for download on August 17, while the physical version will hit stores on October 13. The PS4 version will also be compatible with the PS5.
