In May, NetEase announced the creation of a new game development studio called Bad Brain Game Studios. Led by former Ubisoft producer Sean Crooks, the studio aims to create triple-A games starting with an open-world action/adventure game with horror elements and a coming-of-age story inspired by 1980s movies. Crooks recently spoke about the studio’s founding, meeting with NetEase executives, and the upcoming game, which will be built in Unreal Engine 5. Bad Brain currently has around 20 employees split between two sister studios in Montreal and Toronto. The studio’s hybrid work environment allows for remote work and flexibility in local cultures. The team is focused on building a well-synergized, team-oriented creative machine that is multidisciplinary.
