Pokémon Games Release Schedule May Be Adjusted in the Future to Ensure Quality, Hints COO

Pokémon games have always had great sales potential, but their quality hasn’t always been top-notch. The latest installment on Nintendo Switch, Scarlet and Violet, received criticism for its technical presentation. Nathan Birch’s review on Wccftech highlighted some of these issues:

It’s safe to say that I truly enjoyed Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but we can’t ignore the game’s presentation. Although it’s not as bad as the worst images and videos being circulated, there are noticeable low-quality objects and blurry textures that resemble Gamecube-era graphics. The performance can be quite poor, with frame rates dropping to 20fps or lower, especially when there are many NPCs or weather effects. Even objects in the distance run at lower frame rates, sometimes even just a few feet in front of the player. Visual glitches are common, but fortunately, no crashes or major issues have been encountered.

Typically, The Pokémon Company doesn’t directly address such criticism. However, during an interview conducted by ComicBook.com at the Pokémon World Championships, Chief Operating Officer Takato Utsunomiya made an interesting comment about ensuring future product quality.

In the past, we have always followed a consistent release schedule, introducing new products regularly to provide new experiences for our customers. While we continue to operate in this manner, there are ongoing discussions on how we can maintain this while ensuring the introduction of high-quality products as the development environments evolve.

Could this mean that future installments may be delayed in order to prioritize quality? Fans certainly hope to avoid a repeat of the issues with Scarlet and Violet. It’s worth noting that two DLCs are planned to be released later this year: The Teal Mask on September 13th and The Indigo Disk in Q4 2023.

In other Pokémon news, the augmented reality game Pokémon Go has been downloaded over 678 million times, as reported by Data.ai.
