Part 2 of The Last of Us Hinted at by Composer for a Potential New Release

Speculations are arising that The Last of Us Part 2 could be getting an enhanced release after series composer Gustavo Santaolalla dropped hints in a recent interview.

In a conversation with Blender, Santaolalla hinted at his expanded cameo appearance in The Last of Us Part 2 in “new editions” of the game. He intriguingly mentioned, “In the new editions, you can make me play certain themes and… well, I can’t tell you anything else.”

Initially, Santaolalla appeared in the game as Gustavo, a survivor of the Cordyceps infection outbreak residing in Jackson. It seems that his minor role, where he played the banjo, will be expanded in these rumored new versions of the game. Santaolalla suggested that players will have the opportunity to make Gustavo play songs from the game’s soundtrack.

It’s important to note that this is still not an official announcement and the first we’ve heard of any new editions of The Last of Us Part 2. While it’s possible that the game will follow its predecessor and make its way to PC, considering it is currently only available on PlayStation 4, it is also plausible that a PlayStation 5 version is in development.

However, the PC port of The Last of Us Part 1 faced severe criticism upon release due to numerous performance issues, resulting in overall negative player reviews. Subsequently, a massive 25GB patch was issued to address framerate and fidelity issues.

IGN’s review of The Last of Us Part 2 gave it a perfect score of 10/10 and declared it a masterpiece worthy of its predecessor. The review states, “The Last of Us Part 2 is a culmination of everything that’s made Naughty Dog’s blockbuster storytelling so memorable, with Ellie stepping into the spotlight and carrying the sequel forward.”
