Next-Gen Patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Enhances Performance, Resolves Bugs on PC and Console

The highly acclaimed game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has just received an exciting new update that addresses various bugs and enhances performance. This latest patch, version 4.02, is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. It’s worth noting that these consoles recently received a “next-gen upgrade” in December, although it was met with technical issues. Thankfully, this update aims to resolve those problems.

Among the fixes included in this update is the addition of a dialogue option that was previously missing and essential for progressing the ‘Battle Preparations’ quest. PC players will also appreciate improved water refractions, along with the introduction of a motion blur slider. The update addresses other issues too, making it a comprehensive and essential download. On PC, the update file size is about 2GB, while on consoles, it ranges from 10–20GB.

CD Projekt Red, the Polish studio behind The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has shared detailed patch notes on their blog, categorizing the fixes according to the platform. PC players can expect the DirectX 12 version of the game to lighten the CPU load and resolve the strange flickering problem in the Touissant region when toggling off the Nvidia HairWorks setting. Additionally, the update fixes the previously murky appearance of grass shadows, although players will need to disable Ambient Occlusion once again for this to take effect. To locate this option, players can go to Options → Video → Graphics, as indicated in the provided link. Moreover, the developers have introduced a motion blur slider to enhance the smoothness of camera movement and added a refraction effect to SSR and ray-traced reflections.

Regarding the consoles, both the PS5 and Xbox Series S/X have seen improvements in performance mode. Players will no longer experience crashes when the protagonist, Geralt, decides to run away from the medic Shani after a conversation. The update also addresses a memory usage issue that caused crashes when using Ray-Tracing on the Xbox Series S/X. PS5 users will be relieved to know that blurry cutscenes and automatic deletion of their oldest save data have been resolved. Additionally, the update addresses localization issues, including updated traditional Chinese fonts and punctuations in the Arabic translation.

In other news, CD Projekt Red is currently working on the Phantom Liberty paid expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. This content is the studio’s most ambitious expansion yet, featuring a significant role for Idris Elba (known for his role in The Suicide Squad) as Solomon Reed, an FIA agent of the ‘New United States of America.’ While details about the expansion remain scarce, a trailer released last year confirmed the return of Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand, an iconic character whose disdain for allegiance to the federation is made clear. Described as an “impossible mission of espionage & survival,” Phantom Liberty promises intense action and suspense.

To sum up, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s next-gen update, along with the latest patch, is now available for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. Players can expect enhanced gameplay, bug fixes, and improved performance in this highly immersive and beloved game.
