Reports suggest that some players’ PS5 consoles are experiencing overheating and crashing issues while playing Final Fantasy 16.
Players have taken to social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit to share their experiences. As of now, developer and publisher Square Enix has not addressed these issues.
“I recently encountered a problem while playing FFXVI,” shared one Reddit user (source: Push Square). “As shown in the attached screenshot, my PS5 suddenly went from being quiet to making a loud noise with the fan speed and then completely shut down after a few seconds. The PS5 emitted three beeps before shutting off.”

The player mentioned that they were playing in Graphics mode with HDR enabled, and the issue occurred during a particular scene where the fans went crazy and the console shut down instantly. They questioned whether it was an overheating problem or a potential bug.
Several other players have also reported experiencing the same issue in the exact same spot, while others claim to have played through that section without any problems. Some affected players refute the possibility of poor ventilation causing the overheating.
I experienced the first ever overheat shutdown on my launch day PS5 while playing #finalfantasyxvi – it happened during this cutscene. A few others also encountered the same issue. Apparently, only Graphics mode is affected. @SquareEnix pic.twitter.com/kRlokl5gHFJune 28, 2023
Currently, it appears that this problem is limited to those playing Final Fantasy 16 in Graphics mode.
