Mark Zuckerberg: Mark Zuckerberg on Threads’ great start, what the app needs to do and the ‘X’ effect

Mark Zuckerberg operates successful social media platforms with billions of users. It’s no surprise that the CEO of Meta, the company behind Facebook, has high hopes for his latest venture, Threads. Threads had an exceptional start, with a massive number of users joining in the first week. During Meta’s earnings call, Zuckerberg expressed his surprise at Threads’ rapid adoption and the immense opportunity it presents.

Zuckerberg also acknowledged that standalone apps have not been very successful for Meta, except for Messenger. However, he credited its success to its origins as a feature within Facebook that was later spun out into a separate app.

Zuckerberg speculated that the initial rush for Threads could be linked to the turmoil surrounding Twitter. He compared the impressive early numbers of Threads to a venture capital portfolio, where multiple unsuccessful attempts are made before one becomes a significant success. Retaining the audience and maintaining high engagement numbers will be the real challenge for Threads.

Zuckerberg admitted that there is still a lot of work to be done to fully realize Threads’ potential and create a product that people genuinely enjoy and continue to use. The app needs to find its product-market fit and ensure user retention. Despite the challenges, Zuckerberg is optimistic that Threads could become a great addition to Meta’s Family of Apps.
