The real winner of the Dead By Daylight Nic Cage update isn’t Nic Cage

Ever wondered why Nic Cage is now a part of the horror game Dead By Daylight? It’s a perplexing move, but it’s undeniably iconic. As gamers from all corners of The Fog finally get the chance to experience his immense talent firsthand, his arrival in DBD has been overshadowed by a much older and creepier adversary who has emerged from months of silence, casting a chilling presence.

The character in question is Sadako, also known as The Onryō in the game. Despite her relentless thirst for vengeance, this eerie spirit has always ranked at the bottom of the killer tier list in Dead By Daylight. She has suffered from an underpowered kit and a relatively useless Projection mechanic.

However, things have changed. Sadako is now on the rise, thanks to a series of significant buffs in DBD patch 7.1.0. These buffs have propelled her from the bottom of the table to the top almost overnight.

Among the buffs are crucial changes to her Projection ability. The cooldown of a ‘used’ TV has been reduced to 45 seconds, significantly shorter than the previous 100-second duration. The most notable change, however, is to her Condemnation stacks. Now, every time Sadako jumps to a TV, her stacks increase by three quarters, and their effect has no radius limitation. Wherever you are on the map, you will be affected.

When combined, these changes are quite frightening. Furthermore, if you carry a Cursed Tape and get hit by Sadako during a chase, you will be instantly hit with two more Condemnation stacks. It’s a brutal blow.

On the Dead by Daylight subreddit, one player expressed their thoughts on Sadako, stating, “I thought Sadako was trash with the new changes, but after playing her a little, I’m reconsidering.” They were referencing a tweet from DBD streamer Hens ‘HensDBD’ who called her “A tier.” Another player even wrote a step-by-step guide on countering Sadako, as it now feels “complex” post-update.

As someone who adores Sadako and her lore, I am ecstatic to see her become viable again. I enjoyed playing her when she was first introduced, but she has struggled lately, especially with powerful killers like The Nurse dominating the game. Now, I have everything I could ask for my favorite killer is back, and we even have Nic F**cking Cage. Life (or death) is good.
