SHILLONG, July 12: Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the KHADC, Titosstarwell Chyne has slammed the Information Technology (IT) department officials for their inability to provide details of the number of computers present in different branches of the Council.
“How can the officials fail to provide details despite the request of the Executive Member (EM) in-charge of IT (Grace Mary Kharpuri)? This is not acceptable,” Chyne said, while raising the issue during the Question Hour of the final day of KHADC’s summer session here on Friday.
Alleging that there is something amiss with the IT department, Titos said computers could be taken away from the Council branches to people’s homes. “I am aware that such things are taking place. I was even informed that many of the computers of the Council are missing,” Chyne claimed.
He urged upon the EM in-charge of IT department to ensure no unnecessary purchase of computers while flagging wastage of Council revenue.
Earlier, the EM in-charge of IT department, Grace Mary Kharpuri, said she had sought details about the number of computers, “but unfortunately, I have not been provided with the same.” She, however, stated that there is not even single new computer which has been purchase during the fiscal year of 2023-24.
According to her, an amount of Rs 20.21 lakh was spent for purchase of computer peripherals.
