Humanity’s Fate Rests on the Shoulders of Michael Cera

In the course of human history, it’s clear that something has gone awry. However, there is hope in the form of Michael Cera, known for his role in Arrested Development. In the sci-fi comedy film Command Z, directed by Steven Soderbergh, Cera takes on the role of a savior who needs our assistance in completing time-travel missions to fix the problems of our existence. This unlikely team is entrusted with using a device that resembles a washing machine to save the world.

The trailer reveals that the team is approached by a seemingly expressionless Michael Cera appearing on a screen in a bunker-like facility. It raises questions about whether his image is a deepfake meant to manipulate and guide the team. Cera explains that the washing machine device requires specific commands to be executed correctly, adding an element of risk and uncertainty to their mission.

To alter the future events that have led humanity astray, the team must mentally travel back to 2023. However, their presence in the past will only manifest as voices in the heads of their targets. The potential chaos and confusion that can ensue from this method become evident as Kohlberg Pryce, played by Liev Schreiber, believes his dog is communicating with him telepathically.

The Command Z trailer also cleverly uses modern social media themes. Instead of being released on YouTube, it is exclusively available on Steven Soderbergh’s blog/marketplace, Extension 765, aptly referred to as “Soderblog.” The website offers merchandise related to Soderbergh’s previous projects, along with personal insights from the filmmaker.

Notably, Command Z is not the only project Soderbergh fans can look forward to in 2023. His thriller series called Full Circle has recently debuted on Max, where he serves as producer and director. The series delves into a kidnapping investigation that has far-reaching consequences worldwide.

Command Z is set to premiere exclusively on Extension 765 on July 17. To catch a glimpse of the trailer, visit Soderbergh’s website. And if you’re interested in Full Circle, check out the trailer below.
