Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is headed to macOS later this year, as announced by Hideo Kojima during Apple’s WWDC 2023 event. Kojima Productions will also bring future titles to the platform. The game will rely on Metal 3 graphics processing system to render its near-realistic imagery and take advantage of MetalFX Upscaling. However, during the presentation, framerates were laggy when the camera panned with the protagonist’s movement. Kojima has not revealed a release date but stated that it will be available for pre-order on the Mac App Store.
Resident Evil Village was the last AAA game ported to Mac, using Apple’s gaming-focused Metal 3 API and is only available on the Mac App Store. Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky is available on Mac and listed in the Steam storefront.
Don’t expect any Metal Gear Solid games for macOS as the IP remains with Konami. Kojima Productions also plans Death Stranding 2, announced at the Game Awards 2022, and a Death Stranding movie in development. The original 2019 game follows Sam, a courier, as they traverse a post-apocalyptic America.
The Director’s Cut version of Death Stranding will be available on macOS, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
