‘Friday the 13th’ 4K Steelbook Arriving on Shelves in October with Thrilling Slashes

More than four decades have passed since the release of Friday the 13th. Now, fans of the beloved horror classic have a new reason to celebrate. According to a recent report from Bloody Disgusting, a brand-new 4K steelbook edition of the original film will be available starting October 10, just in time for the Halloween season.

The steelbook release of Friday the 13th will include the same disc content as the 4K edition that debuted last year. However, fans will be treated to slipcover art taken from the film’s vinyl soundtrack, featuring a close-up of Alice’s eye with the horrors of Camp Crystal Lake reflected in her pupil. The steelbook itself showcases the original poster artwork of the film, prominently featuring the infamous quote “Kill her Mommy” from Pamela Vorhees.

With stunning artwork and a 4K remastered edition, this latest release of the original slasher classic is a must-have for fans. Released in 1980, Friday the 13th follows a group of camp counselors who are murdered one by one at the newly reopened Camp Crystal Lake. Directed by Sean S. Cunningham, the film stars Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Jeannine Taylor, Laurie Bartram, Kevin Bacon, and Mark Nelson.

The Beloved Franchise Remains on Hiatus

The original Friday the 13th made its debut in 1980 and quickly became a smash hit with audiences. It spawned an entire franchise with numerous sequels, a remake, and even a crossover with the Nightmare on Elm Street series. However, after the release of its 2009 remake, the franchise has been on hiatus from the big screen. Future installments have been stuck in development limbo. Nevertheless, there is hope for the franchise’s return. Reports suggest that a television spinoff titled Crystal Lake is in the works, and a reboot film is also being developed. However, there is no official word yet on when these projects will be released, especially with the current strikes from both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA. But if all goes well, fans won’t have to wait too long before diving back into the iconic slasher series.

The 4K steelbook edition of Friday the 13th will be available on October 10. Watch the official trailer for the original horror classic below.
