Experience Time Travel with NECA Figures

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have captivated audiences since the 1980s, especially on the silver screen. The comic book franchise has spawned six feature films, with the seventh installment, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, set to release later this summer. Leading up to the reboot’s August premiere, NECA has unveiled their new figures for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.

This particular adventure was the final installment of the original live-action trilogy of TMNT. Released in 1993, the film follows our beloved crime-fighting turtles as they accidentally time travel to feudal Japan to help defeat an evil warlord. The seven-inch NECA figures feature Leonardo, Rafael, Michelangelo, and Donatello in their samurai outfits from the movie. The figures come in a four-pack priced at $150 and are exclusively available at conventions. The pack also includes a pizza box filled with accessories such as interchangeable heads and hands, various weapons, fabric robes, and more. Additionally, the set comes in VHS-inspired packaging to match NECA’s previously released figures for the 1990 original and Secret of the Oz. Many of the accessories from this set can also be used with the turtles’ other movie figures.

The Legacy of Time-Traveling Turtles

TMNT III, while separate from the classic game Turtles in Time, is not considered the most beloved installment in the franchise. It lacked many classic elements of TMNT, such as the main villain Shredder, the foot clan, and prominent characters like Casey Jones and April O’Neil were relegated to secondary roles. The film also faced criticism due to its release during a period of heightened concern about violence in cinema, resulting in less impressive action sequences. However, despite these setbacks, TMNT III has managed to live on through the nostalgia of adults who cherished their VHS copies of the film while growing up. Home video sales played a substantial role in the film’s enduring popularity, especially considering it was released the same year as the final season of the TMNT animated series, when the franchise seemed to be fading away. Today, the film unquestionably shows its age, particularly in terms of costumes, and can objectively be considered subpar, but it possesses a certain charm that continues to bring a smile to the hearts of those young at heart.
