Confirmed by CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Sells Over 50 Million Units Globally.

In an impressive feat, CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has sold over 50 million copies globally, resulting in a franchise-wide sales total of over 75 million units, making it one of the most successful game series of all time. The Witcher 3 is now ninth on the list of the best-selling games in history, just behind Red Dead Redemption 2, which has sold 53 million copies. With a recently released next-gen update that includes ray-tracing support, improved performance on consoles, and quality-of-life changes, these numbers are likely to continue to climb.

Piotr Nielubowicz, CFO of CD Projekt Red, expressed excitement about the franchise’s strength and the company’s upcoming projects set in the Witcher universe, including a new trilogy that is currently in the works, with the first one, codenamed Witcher Polaris, slated for release in the near future. The studio plans to use Unreal Engine 5 for this trilogy, and gamers can look forward to the sequels benefiting from the groundwork laid in the first game.

CD Projekt Red will also receive support from Epic Games for a full-blown remake of the first Witcher game, codenamed Canis Majoris. The game will take an open-world approach while following the same story as the original 2007 game. Additionally, there’s the multiplayer spin-off title, codenamed Sirius, which recently underwent an internal overhaul, with a story mode planned to be included at the game’s core.

Fans can also look forward to hearing about CD Projekt Red’s other big title, Cyberpunk 2077, at the upcoming Summer Game Fest. Specifically, the presentation will focus on the Phantom Liberty expansion, in which Idris Elba stars as Solomon Reed, an FIA Agent for the New United States of America.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt can be played on various platforms, including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and Nintendo Switch. However, affiliate links may be found in this content, and you can consult the ethics statement for further details.
