John Wick is an evergreen franchise that continues to amaze. During the interview, Stahelski candidly shared his thoughts on the matter, highlighting the delicate balance between telling a compelling story and meeting the studio’s desire for another film. However, he believes that this situation isn’t necessarily negative. So, when can we expect to witness the thrill of John Wick 5?

“I honestly don’t know. Lionsgate is keen on doing more ‘John Wick’ stuff, understandably. It’s not a bad thing for a director to have a property that they want to make more of. I don’t have a take right now. But I could wake up tomorrow and have a cool idea that I’d pitch to Keanu, or he would pitch to me, and it might hit that chord of, ‘Oh my God, we got to do this right now.’ I have scenes, I have action sequences in my head that we haven’t used that I’d love to do. If we do come back, we can’t just do the same thing. I gotta do my homework. I gotta get better.”

In John Wick, Bigger Is Always Better

Throughout the John Wick series, it’s evident that Stahelski is committed to raising the bar when it comes to the action sequences. So, if he expresses his desire to push boundaries further and evolve, the prospect of John Wick 5 becomes even more exciting. However, there’s an intriguing question to address: the fate of Wick himself (Keanu Reeves) since he seemingly met his demise in the last film. Despite this, it’s not uncommon for action franchise characters to make a comeback. Nevertheless, the conclusion of John Wick – Chapter 4 felt like the end of a cycle, making it necessary for Stahelski to consider if the flagship series can continue without its titular character.

Meanwhile, the franchise spin-offs are progressing rapidly. This year, we anticipate the arrival of The Continental, a prequel series set in the hotel that serves as a sanctuary for the world’s deadliest assassins. Additionally, we can look forward to Ballerina in 2024, an action-packed film featuring Ana de Armas (No Time to Die), with a cameo appearance by Keanu Reeves.

The Continental will premiere in September, while Ballerina hits theaters on June 7, 2024.
