Apple Launches Spatial Personas for Vision Pro Users

Apple first unveiled Spatial Personas, a feature that allows Vision Pro users to interact in the virtual realm, last year at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. But the technology hasn’t been available until now.

At the annual conference, Apple explained that Spatial Personas would bring a new way for Vision Pro users to connect with one another. “Spatial Personas let you feel present with others in a way technology has never enabled before,” the company shared. “You can look your friends in the eye, express yourself naturally with movement and body language, and best of all, enjoy a shared activity together using your app.”

The new technology takes a 3D capture of a user’s head and hands and puts it into visionOS, where they can take it into virtual space and interact with other avatars. These users can now watch movies together over SharePlay, play AR games in the same virtual space, and even collaborate on presentations in real-time.

To activate the new feature, users simply enable Spatial Personas from a FaceTime call. Apple shares that individual users will be able to move their avatars where they like, which will also reflect how their virtual companions see them in the space too. Currently, the feature works with up to five participants.

Spatial Personas is now available for those with a Vision Pro running visionOS 1.1 or later. To learn more, head to Apple.com.
