However, there’s something about it that sets it apart from previous franchise installments.
The first trailer for season two reveals that Loki possesses powers far beyond mere illusions and shape-shifting. While the God of Mischief has demonstrated various abilities throughout his time in the MCU, his recent feat of unleashing powerful green energy blasts caught our attention.
This newfound power made its debut in season one of the Disney Plus show, and though it’s impressive to see this familiar character reveal new tricks, it raises a question: Why didn’t Loki use these energy blasts before?
Marvel may attempt to justify it, but a simple explanation like “there was never a need for it” won’t cut it. We’ve witnessed Loki in countless dire situations where energy blasts could have been invaluable, or at the very least, given him a fighting chance.
We haven’t forgotten how his encounter with the Hulk in The Avengers went down. It’s impossible to erase the image of the God of Mischief being effortlessly thrown around. Are we expected to believe that an energy blast couldn’t have sent the Hulk flying? It’s a stretch.
But then again, the MCU has experienced its fair share of continuity errors. While the introduction of a new power doesn’t quite fall into that category, it does make us raise an eyebrow.
