With the rights to the X-Men now under Marvel Studios, we can expect to see the likes of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool making their way into the MCU.
However, before we get to enjoy Deadpool 3 next May, a new nemesis has emerged, one even more formidable than Apocalypse, Magneto, or any other antagonist in the X-Men series. This nemesis goes by the name of Elon Musk. In a universally despised move, Musk has decided to rebrand Twitter as simply “X,” thereby tarnishing the reputation of the X-Men within a mere 24 hours.
Thanks to Musk, the name “X-Men” runs the risk of being co-opted by anyone and everyone on Twitter, diluting its association with the brave marginalized heroes who fight against a world that hates and despises them.
Is Musk’s attempt to rebrand Twitter an endeavor to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming an X-Man? If so, someone should inform him that while he may be gifted in some way, it certainly isn’t in heroism (hint: it rhymes with “schmillain”).
Unfortunately, becoming an X-Man isn’t as glamorous as we once imagined it to be.
