There have been many reports and social media posts indicating that Google is increasing the number of ads being displayed to Gmail users. Ads have always played a crucial role in Gmail’s interface by generating revenue and keeping the email service free. However, until now, it’s been easy to distinguish ads from genuine emails.
Now, Google seems to be inserting ads into the middle of users’ inboxes, making it more difficult to differentiate between ads and actual emails.
Ads in Gmail
In addition to ads that are designed to look like regular emails, there are also larger interactive ads with images and other content.
There hasn’t been any official announcement about these changes. The Gmail Twitter (opens in new tab) account responded to one user saying that ads in the middle of an inbox “doesn’t sound good.”
These changes are gradually being rolled out to some users while others haven’t seen any sign of the new ad style. Those users who are affected by these changes have noticed them across all Gmail interfaces, including the mobile app and web access.
Gmail users who prefer to use a different client such as the Mail app on Apple hardware or Outlook aren’t affected by these new ads from Gmail.
Google hasn’t yet responded to TechRadar Pro‘s request for verification of changes to its ad layout.

Google launched a new Ads Transparency Center that enables users to check information such as ads previously run by a company, the regions that received those ads, and other history including previous runs of that same ad. Google claimed that 30 million users interact with its ad transparency menu daily.
