Montana Internet celebrates fiber internet project

Montana Internet, Helena’s first internet service provider, said it is now the first to offer fiber internet to several underserved areas across Lewis and Clark County.

The company has an initiative to connect hundreds of homes and businesses in Helena Valley Northeast along Lincoln Road between I-15 and the Causeway.

At the end of last year, the company’s in-house fiber crew completed 9 miles of new backbone construction between Fox Ridge Golf Course and Collins Drive, which involved a complex aerial crossing at the Causeway Bridge.

On Feb. 12, the company completed the construction, lit up its fiber optic backbone, and installed the first-ever fiber optic connection in the Northeast Valley at a home on Fantasy Road. Montana Internet officials said they are paving the way for hundreds of residents and businesses to have fiber optic speeds and reliability.

To celebrate, Montana Internet had a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 9 at the Causeway Bridge, attended by their team, including company founders and board members, Lewis and Clark County representatives and others who helped in their expansion to the Northeast Valley. They also commemorated Montana Internet’s 30th anniversary.

Montana Internet has built 13 “fiberhoods” in the Helena region, with another 10 slated for completion this year. They also offer fiber internet in select areas of Boulder and Clancy, company officials said.

Montana Internet CEO Josh Romandia said the company is “extremely grateful for the ongoing support from our customers and community throughout our many fiber projects and over the three decades we have been operating.”

“Our mission to build a more connected Montana wouldn’t be possible without that support, and it certainly continues to inspire us to keep building,” he said.

The company will announce more fiber projects in Helena, Broadwater and Jefferson counties and the launch of its next-generation fixed-wireless service in the coming weeks.
