YouTube app on Android 14 Beta 4 experiences crashes due to a single tab

Users of Pixel smartphones who are currently on the Pixel 14 Beta program will soon be transitioning to the stable version of Android 14. This update is expected to arrive next month. However, despite being relatively well-behaved compared to previous releases, Android 14 Beta 4 is still experiencing some issues. Notably, Google’s YouTube app has encountered problems since the update to version 18.27.35 on the Android platform.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the YouTube app on phones running either Android 14 Beta 4 or Beta 3.1 crashes when users tap on the Library tab after installing the update. This issue affects not only Pixel devices, including the mid-range “a” series models, but also the new Pixel Tablet.

It’s worth noting that this issue is not present on Pixel devices running Android 13. Additionally, the YouTube app remains stable when users tap on other tabs like Home, Shorts, and Subscriptions. Therefore, as long as you avoid accessing your YouTube library to resume an unfinished video or view a specific video again, you should be able to use the YouTube app on your Pixel without any problems.

On my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 14 Beta 4, I am currently using YouTube version 18.27.33, so I have yet to receive the problematic update. To check the version of YouTube on your Pixel, open the app, tap the profile picture at the upper right corner, select settings, and scroll down to the “About” section. Tap on “About” to access the App version, which is the second-to-last entry on the page. If it displays as 18.27.35, tapping the Library tab will cause the app to crash.

The responsibility lies with Google to resolve this issue. Google may release an update to the YouTube app, potentially as soon as this weekend. You can check for updates by opening the Play Store, tapping the profile picture at the upper right corner, and selecting Manage apps & device. Under Updates available, tap on See details. If you find YouTube listed in the update queue, press “Update” to install it. If not, check periodically to see if a bug fix has been released.
