WhatsApp users mortified after waking up to huge change on app that will eventually reach all users

Meta have tried to fiddle with the app’s iOS interface, again

They just can’t seem to help themselves, can they?

WhatsApp are at it again with the unprovoked changes, and as one of the most-used and often unchanged applications in the world, users are not best pleased.

The app recently made the decision of changing the words ‘online’ and ‘typing’ below a contact’s name to have capital letters, which received major backlash before being reverted back.

But it looks like they’ve done it again, trying to make quiet changes to its iOS interface, hoping to go unnoticed yet again.

Spoiler alert: They failed (again).

It turns out that this change has been rolling out across different countries since February, but a lot of users would have woken up today to a nasty shock when they logged into the app.

Users have been taking to social media to voice their discontent at these unwelcome changes ever since they noticed the new look of the app, bringing on a sense of deja vu from a couple of weeks ago.

Those with automatic updates will have had no idea that the app was going to change its layout, moving on from its traditional blue themed interface.

Don’t worry, if you were as shocked as I was this morning, you’re not alone.

The majority of iOS users will now see that the layout of WhatsApp on their phones are green-themed – a change that has been made 15 years after its introduction to the Apple Store.

Android fans will be left unbothered though, as they have always had a green interface – iPhone was known for having a deep blue theme, keeping in line with the general interface colours on Apple products.

The chat-list window, the status bar, notifications in your settings, it’s all gone through a major revamp, now donning the green that is associated with the messaging app.

To add more insult to injury, even links that are sent in chats will be green coloured, instead of the old blue – this might be a step too far.

Though, Meta previously stated that they were going to bring a ‘modern, new experience to WhatsApp and make it more accessible as well as easier to use,’ through its changes.

They also said in a report: “We’ve made some changes to how WhatsApp looks and feels, including spacing, colours, icons and more.”

As expected, the meltdown on social media has ensued, with several users making their annoyance at the changes known on X, formerly Twitter.

One user posted: “That new green for whatsapp is ugly especially in dark mode!! Change back to Blue please,” with a crying emoji.

Another put: “I miss my blue WhatsApp, this green version is just irritating.”

A third said: “With this new green update on WhatsApp, it feels like everyone from my local plumber to extended family has added me in their close friends list.”

It’s okay guys, we’ll power through.
