One such winner is Asmi Jain, a 20-year-old student from Indore, who designed an app to help people strengthen their eye muscles. The inspiration for her app was her friend’s uncle, who suffered from eye misalignment and facial paralysis due to brain surgery. Jain’s app tracks a user’s eye movements as they follow a ball moving around the screen, with the goal of helping people with a variety of eye conditions and injuries.
Jain’s app won the Swift Student Challenge at WWDC23, and she had a virtual meeting with Apple CEO Tim Cook ahead of the event. Cook praised Jain for her creativity and ingenuity, noting that her work exemplifies the spirit of Apple’s mission to help people pursue their passions and bring their best ideas to life.
For Jain, coding is not just a way to forge a unique career path but also an opportunity to help others. Her goal is to expand her app to strengthen all of the muscles in the face and to serve as a therapy tool that people can use at their own pace. Jain feels that coding lets her create things that help her community, giving her a sense of empowerment.
