Ubisoft Confirms Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Launch in Late 2023, Complete Unveil at Ubisoft Forward Event

Ubisoft’s much-anticipated virtual reality game, previously known as the Assassin’s Creed VR game, has been rebranded as Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR. The announcement was made at the recent Meta Quest Games Showcase, with a promised release date of later this year. Further updates on the game will be revealed during the Ubisoft Forward event on June 12. This news was a response to the cancellation of E3 2023.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR will be the first game in the franchise to feature virtual reality gameplay. This seems odd considering the similarity of virtual reality to the Animus machine, which is used in the franchise to delve into important moments in history. The game has been in development for some time, alongside a Splinter Cell VR game, which was cancelled in the previous year, along with three other unannounced titles. The subsidiary of Ubisoft Red Storm is leading development for both virtual reality games, with extra support from Ubisoft Reflections, Ubisoft Dusseldorf, and Ubisoft Mumbai.

Last year, Ubisoft announced multiple in-development projects in the Assassin’s Creed universe, which include two single-player games, a mobile game, and a central hub called Assassin’s Creed Infinity. Assassin’s Creed Red is set in feudal Japan, and it’s being developed by Ubisoft’s Quebec division best known for the popular game Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. AC Hexe is described as the “darkest” in the series, set in the late stages of the Holy Roman Empire. Additionally, there is Assassin’s Creed Jade, a China-set mobile game that follows the same gameplay format as recent entries.

More recently, Ubisoft confirmed the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage on October 12, including a gameplay trailer that showcases a back-to-basics approach focused on linear stealth-assassination gameplay, rather than an open-world RPG. Set in ninth-century Baghdad, the game follows Basim Ibn Ishaq, a side character from AC Valhalla, who becomes a master assassin under mentor Roshan’s guidance. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is now available for pre-order on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR will be available on the Meta Quest VR headset later this year. More details on the game will be revealed at Ubisoft Forward event on June 12, at 10:30 PM IST/10 am PT in the US.
