Twitter Link Preview Issue Plagues iPhone Users

When users share a link to a social media post on a messaging platform, it usually generates a link preview. These previews provide a summary of the content of the link destination, including a title, description, and thumbnail. However, it seems that link previews for Twitter posts are not working on some messaging platforms. According to a report by 9to5Google, Twitter link previews are appearing blank for some users of iMessage and Slack.

It is believed that this issue is affecting Apple’s rich media preview feature available on iMessage for iPhone, Mac, and other devices. Typically, when iPhone users share a Twitter link, the preview displays the tweet without the need to click on it. The preview may also include a thumbnail if the tweet contains attachments.

The report suggests that this problem may be due to a disconnect between Twitter and Apple servers. As a result, when shared, the tweet links only show “twitter.com” without any context in the preview. While this bug may resemble Apple’s Lockdown Mode feature, which restricts the opening of links in iMessages, the impact of the Twitter link preview issue is not as severe.

Fortunately, users can still click on the link to be redirected to the specific tweets, so the links themselves are not affected. If users cannot see the preview, they can click on the link to open Twitter on the web or app and view the shared content. However, Twitter’s link previews are convenient, especially for users who frequently share and comment on tweets.

This is not the first time such an issue has arisen for Twitter users on iPhones. In 2022, a similar issue was quickly resolved by Twitter. However, both Twitter and Apple have yet to acknowledge this particular issue.
