‘Surprisingly Family-Friendly Rating’ for ‘The Red Door’

Horror enthusiasts have enjoyed another sensational year with notable franchises like Scream and Evil Dead. The highly anticipated comeback for a big franchise in 2023 is Insidious, with its fifth installment titled Insidious: The Red Door. This legacy sequel has garnered excitement for several reasons. Notably, Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Ty Simpkins are making their return to The Further after a decade, with Wilson even marking his directorial debut for the film. As the dreaded return of The Red Door is a few weeks away, the movie has now received a chilling PG-13 rating.

The rating is given for its depiction of “violence, terror, frightening images, strong language, and suggestive references.” While this may disappoint some horror fans, the Insidious franchise has set the benchmark for delivering exceptional PG-13 horror. Particularly, the first three chapters of the series are considered some of the scariest films of the 21st century. This spine-chilling series knows how to captivate the audience through its thick atmosphere, haunting musical score, and well-timed jump scares. Insidious masterfully proves that jump scares can be an art form when executed with meticulous care.

What’s The Red Door About?

Insidious: The Red Door takes place a decade after the events of Chapter 2. The Lambert family has moved on from The Further, and Dalton (Simpkins) is starting college. However, while both Josh (Wilson) and Dalton have forgotten their dark past, The Further hasn’t. Soon after Dalton arrives at school, the familiar demons resume their reign of terror, throwing the Lambert family into a hellish chaos.

Although the literal haunting ceased after the events of Chapter 2, the family still carries the lasting mark left by the demons. At the beginning of The Red Door, it seems that Josh and Renai (Byrne) are estranged, and their family ties have been severed. This creates the perfect opportunity for any demon from The Further to latch onto them. Additionally, amidst a sea of familiar characters, Lin Shaye’s Elise returns to aid this ill-fated family in their battle against evil. While this is billed as the final chapter in the Lambert family’s story, the Insidious franchise will continue its terrifying legacy with the spin-off Thread: An Insidious Tale.

When Does The Red Door Release?
