THQ Nordic Showcase Features Outcast Reboot, Giant Enemy Crab

As summer nears its end, we were treated to yet another captivating publisher showcase. THQ Nordic hosted its own presentation, showcasing a range of exciting games, including a reboot of the beloved 1999 game Outcast, a sequel to the popular dungeon crawler Titan Quest, and a charming sandbox management game with a Pikmin-like atmosphere.

The showcase kicked off with the highly-anticipated Outcast: A New Beginning, a slight rebranding of the previously announced Outcast 2. This was our first glimpse into the new game, where ex-Navy Seal Cutter Slade finds himself embroiled in a fierce war between the native Talans and faceless invaders on the planet Adelpha. The gameplay demonstration impressed as it showcased the open world exploration using a jetpack, and the highly modular weapon system for managing equipment.

THQ emphasized the importance of living in harmony with nature and exploring at one’s own pace within this open world. This means, rather than the typical tower-climbing to unlock waypoints, players will focus on building up the Talan society and nurturing alien life. The flying and hovering gameplay brought to mind the action of Dark Void, and THQ’s art style aims to evoke the sci-fi movies and comic books of the 1980s and ’90s. Outcast: A New Beginning will be powered by Unreal Engine 4 and will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Another highlight of the showcase was the cinematic trailer for Titan Quest 2, which showcased a tone reminiscent of Diablo. The top-down action-RPG gameplay bore similarities to its predecessor, with a focus on Greek mythology. The game will offer online multiplayer and THQ is committed to creating a flexible character system and meaningful loot. As a playful nod, the trailer featured a gargantuan enemy crab as an example of an epic boss battle.

The presentation also included an update on Space for Sale, a sandbox management simulation where players assume the role of a cute little astronaut. The objective is to develop and manage properties on desolate planetscapes. As your spaceman faces off against towering enemies like a giant octopus-like alien, you have direct control over item placement and property management. The game will be exclusive to PC, and closed beta sign-ups are now available.
