Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves will be receiving a classic Monkey Island-themed DLC called “The Legend of Monkey Island,” which will be released in three monthly chapters starting on July 20, 2023. The DLC will feature iconic characters from the popular point-and-click adventure game such as Guybrush Threepwood, Elaine, and the ghost captain LeChuck. It will also showcase freely explorable versions of both Mêlée Island and Monkey Island, set in the Sea of the Damned. However, the creator of Monkey Island, Ron Gilbert, has confirmed that he was not informed about the upcoming crossover. Gilbert, who directed, co-designed, and co-wrote the first two Monkey Island games that heavily inspired the upcoming Sea of Thieves DLC, recently returned to the series with “Return to Monkey Island.” Despite not being involved in the DLC, fans are excited to see the iconic characters in Sea of Thieves’ first-person view in a brand new way. The Xbox Games Showcase also revealed Richard Ayoade’s appearance in the upcoming Fable game.
