Many former stars return to the franchises that made them famous, often driven by the desire for financial gain. In the case of Ernie Hudson, who had a minor role in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it’s clear that he participated in the sequel for the paycheck. However, his thoughts on the creative direction of director Jason Reitman’s film are less enthusiastic.
In an interview with ScreenRant, Hudson, who portrays Winston Zeddemore, expressed his reservations about the new direction of the franchise but acknowledged that he was willing to go along with it for his own reasons.
“As we introduce new stories, and new characters, that’s what moves the whole thing forward, but we’re still a part of it, so it was great to see Bill Murray, and Danny Aykroyd, Annie Potts, it’s great to see them there, and really just enjoying it and enthusiastic about being there. It’s different, it’s not necessarily the direction I would go in, but I just love being part of it, and I think the fans will like this new direction, but we’ll see.”
Although Hudson has previously voiced his criticisms of Ghostbusters, it’s noteworthy that he acknowledged his place in the current incarnation of the franchise while questioning how much control he actually has over it.
Despite his reservations, Hudson will continue to be involved, hoping for fair financial compensation.
