Take-Two CEO Reveals GTA 6 Leak Created Emotional Impact, Yet Business Remains Unaffected

The long-awaited eighth installment of the immensely popular Grand Theft Auto series is generating unprecedented levels of excitement. Grand Theft Auto V, which was originally released nearly a decade ago on outdated consoles, has left fans eagerly anticipating the arrival of GTA 6. Rockstar Games, the developers of the series, have already confirmed that they are hard at work on the game, but no official release date has been announced.

However, last year, fans were treated to an unauthorized glimpse of the upcoming game through a leak that revealed in-development footage from GTA 6. This leak showcased gameplay, characters, and the open world setting, raising concerns about the potential impact on the game’s publishers. Despite falling slightly short of its target in its latest earnings report, Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, stated that the leak had no adverse effect on their business.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described the leak as an “emotional matter” rather than a business concern. In an interview with IGN, he expressed the frustration and disappointment felt by the team but emphasized that from a business standpoint, they remained unaffected. Despite this, the leak undoubtedly had a personal and emotional impact on their dedicated teams.

Last September, Rockstar Games experienced a massive leak when gameplay footage from GTA 6 surfaced on a popular GTA forum. Over 90 videos were leaked, showcasing two playable characters named Lucia and Jason, effectively confirming that the next installment will feature a female protagonist. These leaked videos quickly went viral on various social media platforms, prompting Take-Two Interactive to file copyright claims and remove the leaked content. Rockstar Games issued a statement expressing their extreme disappointment over the unauthorized sharing of details about their highly anticipated game.

After years of speculation, Rockstar Games finally announced last year that they are actively developing the next main installment of GTA. In an online post last February, the studio officially confirmed that work on the game is underway, much to the delight of fans worldwide.

Even years after its release, GTA 5 continues to be a highly lucrative game, with sales still soaring. According to a report by IGN, the game has sold a staggering 175 million copies as of last quarter.
