Surprise Finale Preceding Diablo IV Launch: Final Open Beta and Gameplay Updates Revealed

Blizzard Entertainment has announced a surprise final open beta play session for Diablo IV, set to take place next month. During their developer live stream, held on Friday, the company confirmed that Fractured Peaks will be open for the third time on May 13 at 12:30 am IST/ May 12 at 12pm PT in the US. The event, dubbed the ‘Server Slam’ weekend, will run until May 15 at 12:30am IST/ May 14 at 12pm PT, and is intended to test the server infrastructure and durability of Diablo IV. Players across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X will have access, with support for cross-play and cross-progression.

It’s important to note that progress made during the Server Slam will not carry over to the full launch of Diablo IV. This presents a great opportunity for players to try out a new class or build without any long-term consequences. Participants will be able to revisit the snowy tundras of Fractured Peaks, the first zone, and experience the Prologue and Act 1 in its entirety, with a level cap of 20. Five classes will be available to choose from: Barbarian, Druid, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Necromancer. Players can freely explore the lands, hunting down demons lurking in the darkness. The drop rate of Legendary Items will be reduced during this period to better reflect the drop rates at lower levels. The inflation of their effects in the previous beta was rectified in order to provide players with a preview of what to expect in the final version of Diablo IV.

In addition to the gameplay, the beta version will include bug fixes and updates to balance the overall experience before launch day. Certain classes, such as Barbarians and Druids, will receive buffs to address their underperformance at lower levels. On the other hand, Necromancers will receive nerfs to their undead minions and corpse explosion, resulting in reduced damage.

Furthermore, starting 24 hours into the beta on May 13 at 9am PT/ 9:30pm IST in India, the world boss Ashava will spawn every three hours. Defeating Ashava will reward players with a ‘Cry of Ashava Mount Trophy’ in the form of a horn. Participating in the Diablo 4 open beta also offers additional rewards upon completing specific goals. Reaching Kyovashad with a character grants the ‘Initial Casualty’ title, while reaching Level 20 earns the ‘Early Voyager’ title. The Server Slam weekend also supports couch co-op on consoles.

After some delays, Diablo IV recently reached the gold status, indicating the completion of production and readiness for release. The studio previously shared details about the endgame progression, which brings back the Nightmare version. Additionally, global launch timings for both Standard and early access were announced.

Diablo IV is set to be released on June 6 for PC (via Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The open beta will commence on May 13 at 12:30 am IST/ May 12 at 12pm PT in the US.
