Earlier this week, the world was introduced to the new Superman and Lois in James Gunn’s highly anticipated film, “Superman: Legacy.” David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan have been cast as the iconic DC characters, and Warner Bros. is hoping this movie will mark a fresh start for its DC heroes, leaving the DCEU behind.

With the leads now announced, fans have started speculating about the rest of the cast. Many actors are being suggested for roles like Lex Luthor, Perry White, and Jor-El. However, all eyes are on Jimmy Olsen, Superman’s pal, who had a brief and unfortunate appearance in the DCEU, being killed off early in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Fans are passionate about seeing a true-to-comics portrayal of Jimmy Olsen and have been suggesting young male actors with ginger hair for the role. One interesting suggestion is that Jimmy Olsen should be powerfully and unambiguously portrayed as transgender.

Jimmy Olsen was born to wear a dress

Since 1966, Jimmy Olsen has embraced his feminine side by cross-dressing as a woman. In the story “Miss Jimmy Olsen,” he even solves a jewel heist while disguised as “Julie Ogden,” complete with a wig, heels, makeup, and a dress. His transformation into Julie is so successful and captivating that it makes the cisgender girls jealous. However, his disguise is eventually revealed when someone notices his Adam’s apple.

Throughout the years, Jimmy Olsen has continued to dress as a girl on various occasions, whether it’s to escape from the police, deceive his colleagues at the Daily Planet as “Leslie Lowe, Girl Reporter,” or infiltrate his own fan club as “Jackie Oliver.”

This aspect of Jimmy Olsen’s character isn’t limited to the Silver Age of comics. In Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s “All-Star Superman,” Olsen proudly exclaims, “I look great!” while dressed in feminine attire. In the recent comic series “Who Killed Jimmy Olsen” by Matt Fraction, Jimmy is depicted as stunning while wearing a sleek red dress, captivating the attention of enamored men. As Superman’s pal confidently states, “Down, boys.”

For over 50 years, Jimmy Olsen has celebrated and reveled in his femininity. Therefore, it is only fitting that James Gunn remains true to the original comics by portraying him in a dress.
