What Happened To Earth In Starfield
The players will be able to discover the destiny of Earth at a very early stage of the game. Players must go to the Sol Star System to see Mars, Venus, and Neptune in “The Old Neighborhood” mission. As you realize, this is the solar system we now reside in.
During a conversation with Sarah Morgan while approaching the Nova Galactic Staryard, a dialogue can be selected that will reveal the current state of Earth and its end for the first time.
According to Sarah, the Earth began to lose its atmosphere. As part of an endeavor to move humanity to other planets, the United Colonies were formed. They had 50 years to migrate, which they did, so the present space civilizations viewed by the players were born.
Earth has been reduced to barren rock by the year 2330. Its atmosphere has vanished, resulting in the extinction of all life on the planet. There is no flora or fauna to be found on Earth. There is no greenery or cloud cover, only rocks and wastelands. The temperature has dropped significantly, filling the atmosphere with thin CO2.
Players can learn more about Earth and its history at the end of the game during the “In Their Footsteps” mission. As the story progresses, the players will discover Doctor Victor Aiza’s writing, revealing what happened to Earth in its final years. Dr. Aiza found an Artifact on Mars during a space mission by Nova Galactic and NASA. This helped him develop the concept of the first Grav Dive prototype the scientists created.
However, this prototype started causing some kind of anomaly in the Earth’s atmosphere, and it started breaking down around 2150. Dr. Aiza knew that the Grav Dive and its gravity wave spikes were affecting the Earth’s magnetosphere, but he decided to continue his research, thinking about the future. Soon, the relocation started, but not everyone could be saved. By 2233, Earth was entirely abandoned by humanity.
The museum near the MAST Building (where you meet the recruiter of UC Vanguard with Sarah) in The New Atlantis, presents more information about Earth. You can visit it to get some more knowledge. Take the elevator to the museum to reach there.
Can You Visit Earth In Starfield?
Like the other thousand planets, you can still visit Earth in Starfield. At this time, no mission will require you to land on Earth, but you can surely see the planet on your own. To visit Earth, complete a Grav Jump into the Sol System. Make sure you have enough fuel to complete the jump. After completing the Jump, select a landing target. You will then be able to land on Earth.
Equipping a spacesuit with good Radiation protection is recommended as the Earth will give an ‘Extreme Solar Radiation’ warning during Daytime. However, traveling at night is safe.
If you are trying to visit Earth to mine some resources, unfortunately, there isn’t much left. You can still set up an outpost on Earth. Here are some minerals that can be found on Earth’s surface:

- Lead
- Cholorosilanes
- Mercury
There is not much to do on Earth; you can just roam around to discover what has happened to Earth and how it looks now. If you land in the correct location, you can find ruins of iconic structures like The Empire State Building, the Pyramids of Giza, and the Shard of London.
