Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Release Date Postponed by Six Weeks, Now Scheduled for April 28 Arrival

In a recent tweet, Respawn Entertainment, the developer of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, announced a delay in the highly-anticipated game’s release. Originally scheduled for March 17, the new release date is now set for April 28. The studio clarified that the core content of the game is completed and that the extra time will be utilized for further optimization, ensuring a bug-free and enhanced player experience. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor welcomes back Cameron Monaghan in the lead role of Cal Kestis, who now stands as a formidable Jedi Knight. The game is set five years after the events depicted in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

In an open letter, the Respawn team expressed their pride in completing the next chapter of Cal Kestis’ journey, emphasizing that their focus is now entirely on bug fixes, performance enhancements, stability improvements, and overall polish. Although delays may disappoint fans, instances like the disastrous launch of Cyberpunk 2077 serve as a reminder of the significance of these delays and the final polishing phase in ensuring a high-quality game. Another recent example is Fatshark delaying the release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide on Xbox Series S/X consoles to prioritize fixing issues in the existing PC version.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor maintains several gameplay elements from its predecessor, including the souls-like combat and progression system. As players continue Kestis’ rebellion against an oppressive Empire, the game introduces five fully realized stances that players can employ strategically based on enemy types. Director Stig Asmussen confirmed that the game encourages players to discover effective strategies independently, rather than relying on excessive hand-holding. These stances encompass a lightweight dual-blade option and a heavy stance reminiscent of Kylo Ren’s crossguard lightsaber style, described as “beefy” with extended timing windows for attacks.

The announcement poster showcases the return of Kestis’ loyal and adorable droid BD-1, along with the introduction of a new character called Bode Akuna. Bode Akuna is an AI companion who aids the protagonist in both combat and traversal, forming a special bond with Cal. The game also expands exploration and traversal options by incorporating an ascension cable for climbing rocky surfaces and introducing the ability to tame and ride wild beasts.

Alongside the delay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, EA, the publisher, canceled Apex Legends Mobile and suspended work on the untitled Battlefield mobile game. Apex Legends Mobile will cease its services on May 2, shortly before its one-year anniversary.

Mark your calendars for April 28, as Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will finally release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
