Spotify redesigns its desktop app with a fresh new look

Spotify has recently announced an exciting redesign for its desktop app, aiming to provide users with easier access to detailed information about the song or podcast they’re currently listening to, as well as new ways to organize playlists and other content. According to a blog post published yesterday, this redesign, which Spotify claims is one of its biggest revamps yet, will be rolling out to all desktop users worldwide starting this week.

One noticeable change after the update is the Your Library sidebar on the left side of the screen. Instead of a simple text list of playlists, the interface now features colorful icons. It also displays recently played artists and albums, allowing users to quickly jump back into their favorite music. Users can choose to minimize the sidebar to view only the icons, or expand it to see the name of each entry and additional details, such as the last time they were played. For those who prefer a text-only view, Spotify offers a “Use compact library layout” option in the settings.

To make navigation even more convenient, users can filter the Your Library sidebar to display only artists, albums, or playlists using the icons at the top. There’s also a search box that specifically searches within the user’s library, eliminating the need to search the entire Spotify catalog.

Additionally, Spotify introduces a Now Playing view on the right side of the screen. This feature showcases the currently playing song or podcast, accompanied by relevant information. For music artists, this may include tour dates or merchandise, while podcasts provide transcripts or episode descriptions. The friends feed, which used to be displayed on the right side, is now accessible through the friends icon located in the top right corner of the screen.

The official launch of this new interface coincides with reports of Spotify preparing a significant update to its service. According to Bloomberg, the audio streaming giant is gearing up to introduce a new premium tier that may include the highly anticipated lossless HiFi streaming feature.

Overall, Spotify’s desktop app redesign offers a more visually appealing and user-friendly experience, empowering users to enjoy their favorite music and podcasts with greater ease and efficiency.
