Spotify Announces Premium Plan Price Increase in the United States

Spotify, one of the leading music streaming services in the US, has decided to join the price hike trend that other players in the market have embraced. While Spotify initially enjoyed an influx of customers switching to its service, it is now following suit and increasing its subscription prices. The Wall Street Journal recently reported that Spotify plans to raise the monthly subscription price in the US by $1, making the ad-free premium plan $10.99 per month. Although the announcement is expected to be made next week solely for the US market, other markets may also experience price increases in the coming weeks.

Currently, Spotify offers a free, ad-supported plan that grants access to a vast library of over 80 million songs, podcasts, and audiobooks. However, this plan has limitations, such as downloading podcasts for a limited time and restricted mobile playback for specific playlists. Conversely, the Premium plan, priced at $9.99, provides subscribers with unlimited access, the ability to download music and podcasts, the freedom to listen to songs in any order, and superior audio quality. Moreover, subscribers can enjoy uninterrupted listening with no ads.

Spotify offers various discounted plans for specific customer segments. Students can enjoy a 50% discount on the Premium plan for up to four years. Additionally, Premium Duo caters to two people living together, providing each individual with their own premium account at a discounted price. Furthermore, the Premium Family plan accommodates up to six individuals living together, offering each person their own premium account at a discounted price. This plan also includes Spotify Kids, a dedicated section for children, and an explicit content filter.
