Speculations about ‘Deadpool 3’ Intensify as Suspicious Images Emerge Depicting Hugh Jackman in Wolverine Attire

Speculation among fans is running wild regarding the portrayal of Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3 film. The frenzy started when fake set photos of Hugh Jackman supposedly filming scenes surfaced on Twitter and created a viral sensation.

Initially, even I fell for the authenticity of the Twitter post by user @adrianm0on. However, upon closer examination in the comment section, another user named @newstoatonish called out the post as misleading.

To investigate further, I decided to reverse image search each leaked photo. Using TinEye, I discovered that the first image of Jackman in a tank top was actually a behind-the-scenes picture from the 2014 film X-Men: Days of Future Past, confirming its origin on the Russian website Gamer.ru. Similarly, the second photo featuring Jackman in a navy blue button-down shirt turned out to be from the set of the 2013 movie The Wolverine, as evidenced by the website MatrixPictures.com.au.

Although these photos proved to be disappointingly unrelated to reality, they nonetheless garnered millions of views on Twitter. It still provides an amusing opportunity for fans to speculate about which version of Wolverine, with his rapid healing abilities and tormented soul, will appear in Deadpool 3.

Considering Jackman’s confirmed return as the character in this Ryan Reynolds-led superhero film, it’s not unreasonable to expect some genuine set photos to leak eventually (despite having to patiently wait for them).

Jackman first portrayed the adamantium-infused hero in 2000’s X-Men, kickstarting his role as the franchise’s main star. The X-Men film series from 20th Century Fox has become one of the most complex comic book franchises in movie history, leaving some speculating that Jackman’s supposed farewell in 2017’s Logan could exist within an alternative universe.

However, James Mangold’s Logan is set in a distant future separate from our own. Its pessimistic ending seems unfitting for the remaining X-Men team, most of whom perished years ago within the film’s universe. Despite that, Logan could have served as a poignant conclusion to Fox’s entire X-Men series at that point, but the franchise disappointingly continued with two underwhelming films: 2019’s Dark Phoenix and 2020’s New Mutants.

Undoubtedly, there are now numerous interpretations of Wolverine to choose from, especially considering the timeline-altering events of Days of Future Past, which significantly impacted the franchise.

One intriguing theory suggests that Jackman might portray himself, the Hollywood movie star, rather than the superhero. This creative choice would align with Deadpool’s trademark meta-humor, as the first film even referenced Jackman by name.

Another possibility is that Jackman could continue the storyline from The Wolverine and finally unveil the character’s iconic comic book accurate yellow suit.

Regardless of how Jackman’s appearance in Deadpool 3 plays out, fans eagerly anticipate the reunion between him and Reynolds, as their last collaboration in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was met with critical disdain.

Deadpool 3 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
