Sonic Dream Team gets new animated intro by Sonic Mania artist – Destructoid

There’s a new Sonic the Hedgehog game imminent in the form of Sonic Dream Team, and now fans get a first look at the game’s intro. Ahead of the game’s launch, the official Sonic YouTube has revealed a stunning animated intro, with Sonic Mania artist Tyson Hesse lends his talent to the animation.

The almost two-minute animatic paints a pretty cool image of what we’ll experience come December 5.  We get a glance at Dr. Eggman’s dreamscape plus some story details. And who doesn’t like animated Sonic? Rhetorical question. Everyone loves it.

It doesn’t hurt that the Sonic Dream Team intro is animated by Hesse, whose impact on the Sonic series has been nothing short of influential. Getting his start doing fan art of the self-proclaimed “Fastest Thing Alive,” he found work within the Sonic Archie comics. His classic style was loved by fans, which made his later involvement in the opening animation of Sonic Mania a feast for the eyes. Since then, he’s spearheaded tons of Sonic-based media and become a beacon for fans.

Speed of Sound Asleep

SEGA revealed Sonic Dream Team earlier this month. It’s a 3D platformer similar to other franchise entries like last year’s Sonic Frontiers. This time, you can play on your iPhone, as Dream Team is an Apple Arcade exclusive. Sorry Android users, but robots don’t tend to be friendly to the hedgehog, as history has shown. This isn’t Sonic’s first tour on Apple Arcade, as Sonic Dash+ and Sonic Racing grace the platform.

The story follows Sonic and his friends as they battle fearsome foes within Dr. Eggman’s twisted dreamscape (sadly not related to NiGHTS into Dreams). With the addition of Cream and Rouge, a new sheep character is introduced: Ariem. Supposedly a guardian of the ancient dream device (stolen by Eggman) called the Reverie, her appearance in the newest title will be pretty large. Personally, the Kingdom Hearts-like water dive in the beginning put new meaning into Dream Drop Distance.

Sonic Dream Team launches on December 5 on Apple Arcade.
