If you’ve ever wanted to experience the world of Dr. Frasier Crane in video game format, you’re in luck.
Enter “Frasier Fantasy,” a new Game Boy Color title from composer and game creator Edward La Barbera. As the name suggests, it’s a role-playing game inspired by Square Enix’s popular Final Fantasy series. In fact, even the font for the title closely resembles Final Fantasy‘s. There’s also a little airship flying over the classic Frasier Seattle logo as a further nod to Final Fantasy. La Barbera says fan-made Final Fantasy-esque Frasier box art inspired him to actually make the game.
In terms of visual and gameplay style, however, it’s more reminiscent of Pokémon due to its status as a Game Boy Color title. The game follows Frasier going about his life, including encounters with Niles, Eddie the dog, Marta the maid and more.
You can play Frasier Fantasy for free on PC via itch.io.
On YouTube, La Barbera noted that he does have ideas for a sequel, but he’s taking a break for now after spending the summer finishing “Frasier Fantasy.”
Of course, the game also coincides with this month’s release of the Frasier sequel series on Paramount+. Overall, it seems like we’re in the Frasierennaissance.
