If Ryan Gosling looked at me like that, I would surely be taken aback. Meeting celebrities can be intimidating, and despite my linguistic prowess, I tend to utter peculiar things. I once encountered Rainn Wilson at an art museum and foolishly asked if he came there to appreciate… art. Yes, in an art museum. I will forever regret that encounter.
However, let’s shift our attention from my personal woes and focus on Barbie. This highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the beloved source material is shaping up to exceed expectations. How could it not?
With an ensemble cast including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, and Kate McKinnon, the entire movie looks absolutely marvelous. This makes Simu Liu’s promotional activities for the film all the more exciting.
In his latest tweet, the Canadian-Chinese actor shared a still of himself with his co-star Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in the film. Indeed, both of these gentlemen have the honor of portraying one of the most iconic characters ever.
The exact nature of Ken (Gosling) and Ken #2’s (Liu) relationship remains a mystery, but if the trailer is any indication, it appears to be somewhat contentious. We can credit director Greta Gerwig for that.
Nevertheless, Simu is leaving no stone unturned in promoting this movie, while also having fun along the way.
Forget the Quantum Realm or the Multiverse—having two different Simus battling each other is the crossover event we’ve all been waiting for. Admit it. Until Barbie hits theaters on July 21, playing with dolls and action figures is the closest we can get to the excitement. So come on, Barbie, let’s go party. Or whatever the kids say these days. Oh, and Rainn, if you’re reading this, I promise not to come across as deranged next time we meet.
