Amy’s Big Brother, the prequel to Kyle’s Little Sister, will be published by JY, the middle-grade imprint of Yen Press, before the end of the year. JY is known for its diverse range of middle-grade books, including manga and prose novels. One of their notable works is Svetlana Chmakova’s Berrybrook Middle School series. Kyle’s Little Sister by BonHyung Jeong, released in 2021, has become another charming addition to JY’s original graphic novels, capturing the relatable dynamics of siblings’ childhood experiences. The announcement of the prequel at the American Library Association Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago in late June has generated considerable excitement among librarians, educators, and industry professionals.

“Having a little sister isn’t easy—I’m not her babysitter. She always takes my soda, follows me around, and wants to tag along with me and my friends. What’s worse, she always gets her way with our parents! Sometimes I even wonder if I was adopted just to look after her, although it doesn’t make sense. Thankfully, going to middle school means she can’t bother me there. I’ll have plenty of time to practice becoming the MVP of the basketball team and, who knows, maybe even get a girlfriend! I finally had the courage to ask Hannah out on a date. Now I just need to figure out how to prevent Amy from ruining the day!”
Creator BonHyung Jeong (Bon) attended the School of Visual Arts in New York to study cartooning. Her debut graphic novel, Kyle’s Little Sister, received a warm reception, and she is thrilled to present this highly anticipated continuation just in time for the holidays. Through relatable storytelling, she aims to forge connections with readers.
BonHyung Jeong shares, “Similar to Kyle’s Little Sister, Amy’s Big Brother explores a variety of relationships. This time, however, it delves into the perspective of the first child in a family dealing with sibling conflict. Additionally, I dive deeper into the theme of first love, depicting the experiences of a couple of young characters. I hope that I have portrayed these experiences effectively in Amy’s Big Brother and that readers will find a personal connection to the story.”
Amy’s Big Brother is scheduled for release in December 2023.
